How to connect WhatsApp to a business phone number
WhatsApp Business on a company number is one of the highest-intent channels for European SMBs. Atly connects WhatsApp to an Atly company number (DID) with self-serve WABA registration — and keeps human approval before free-text outbound reaches a customer.
What you need
- An Atly company number that can carry WhatsApp (Phase 2 telephony enabled)
- Business details for WhatsApp Business Account registration in the setup wizard
- A team that will approve drafts on the actions queue (HITL by default)
You do not need your own Meta developer app or a raw Twilio/Telnyx WhatsApp console for the default Atly path.
Keep your existing number?
Atly can work with an existing business number (forwarding where supported) or provision a new Atly SKU. WhatsApp Business on Meta typically registers against a capable company number — the wizard and live catalog show what each SKU supports. Number porting is a separate topic; see [phone number porting](/phone-number-porting).
Honest limits
- WhatsApp is available on Atly company numbers with Phase 2 — not on every personal mobile you already use for SMS.
- Voice and SMS capabilities still depend on the last-seen SKU capabilities in the catalog. Some countries need two SKUs (e.g. mobile for SMS+WhatsApp + local for voice).
- Outbound free-text WhatsApp is not autonomous: AI may draft; humans approve.
Shared number and team inbox
Once WhatsApp is on the company number, the whole team can work from one inbox. See [shared business number](/shared-business-number) for how multiple employees use one line.
Try Atly
Start from [atly.work](/) — connect a company number, then add WhatsApp in setup when your SKU supports it.
